Holiday apartments in the Schamper Mühle

“A golden cock was once found near to the Schamper Mühle on the Gotthun Meadow. The residents prayed to it henceforth as a god, and the golden cock gave the place it’s name“

Die Schamper Mühle holiday apartments are located in the heart of the Mecklenburg Lake District, close to Germany’s biggest Lake, the Müritz. The listed windmill stands on a small hill on the west side of the Lake surrounded by meadows and fields. The rural site invites holiday guests to relax and, at the same time, the nearby walking and cycle paths offer numerous opportunities to explore the beautiful Mecklenburg countryside. The exceptional solitary position of the mill allows for fantastic views on all sides.

The Schamper Mühle now accommodates two identical but mirrored, three storey holiday apartments called Kamut and Einkorn in the space where corn was ground only 60 years ago. The solid timber beams and open stair together with the typical octagonal building form bare witness to the original use of the building. The owner and architect Robin Foster has restored the mill with much attention to detail and respect for the historic building fabric. It was important for Robin to retain the original mill quality of the building and, at the same time, integrate the comforts of modern living.

Robin Foster, who grew up on the Island of Guernsey, and his wife Antje Jacobs, born and bred in Berlin, regularly travel to the Müritz. Antje was familiar with the beauty of the Mecklenburg Lake District from her childhood. They discovered the idyllic windmill on one of their visits and are now looking forward to sharing the listed building with holiday guests, following completion of the renovation work.
